Bangladesh has finally emerged as the champions of its group in the SAFF Under-19 Championship. As a result, the red-green representatives will face Nepal in the semi-finals. India and Maldives will face each other in the other semi-final.
Bangladesh started the tournament with a draw against Maldives. Then, the team secured a semi-final spot with a crucial win against Bhutan. However, becoming the group champion depended on the result of the match between Maldives and Bhutan.
Despite earning 4 points from two matches, Bangladesh had to wait until Tuesday’s match. For Maldives to become the group champion, they had to beat Bhutan by at least four goals. But if the match was drawn 2-2, Bangladesh advanced to the semi-finals from the top of Group ‘A’.
As a result, Bangladesh’s opponent in the first semi-final on May 16 will be Group ‘B’ runner-up Nepal. India defeated them 4-0 in the group stage. On the same day, India will play the second semi-final against Maldives as the champions of Group ‘B’.
The final match of the tournament will be held on May 19.
