We can build a new world if we want: Bangladesh Chief Advisor.

Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, addressed the 5th convocation ceremony of Chittagong University (CU).

Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said, ‘We have the ability to build something new that we want. If we want, we can build a new world according to our own wishes.’
He said these things in his speech at the 5th convocation ceremony of Chittagong University (CU) today, Wednesday.

The Chief Advisor said, everyone needs to have a dream – about the kind of environment and society they want to establish.

Recalling the background of the establishment of Grameen Bank, Dr. Muhammad Yunun said, ‘The civilization that is going on now is a civilization of a destructive economy. The economy that we have created is not for people, but for business.’ He mentioned that this business-centric civilization is suicidal and will not survive.

The Principal Advisor said that he was happy to come to Chittagong University after a long time. He mentioned that he joined his CU as a teacher in 1972. He highlighted the 1974 famine and how Grameen Bank was formed to help famine-stricken people in Chittagong.

He said that Grameen Bank was born in the Economics Department of CU.

At the ceremony, the CU authorities awarded Professor Yunus with the honorary Doctorate of Literature (D. Litt) title for his outstanding contribution to poverty alleviation and peace building through microcredit. CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Yahya Akhtar presented the D. Litt certificate to Professor Yunus.

Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Advisor to the Ministry of Education of the Interim Government, and Professor Dr. S. M. A. Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, among others, spoke at the convocation. CU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Dr. Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Md. Kamal Uddin were also present at the time.
