🧠 Who Invented the Computer?

**Charles Babbage (1791–1871)

He designed the first mechanical computer, known as the Analytical Engine, in the 1830s. Although it was never completed in his lifetime, the design included elements like an arithmetic logic unit, control flow, and memory — all core components of modern computers.

Alan Turing (1912–1954)

Known as the father of modern computer science, Turing developed the concept of a “universal machine” (now called the Turing Machine) that could simulate any computer algorithm.

Konrad Zuse:
Built the first working programmable digital computer (Z3) in Germany in 1941.

ENIAC (1945):
The first fully electronic general-purpose computer, developed by John Presper Eckert and John Mauchly in the U.S.

💡 Why Was the Computer Invented?

The computer was invented to:

  • Automate complex calculations and reduce human error.
  • Solve mathematical and engineering problems faster.
  • Assist in scientific research, war efforts, and later, business operations and communication

Babbage’s original goal was to build a machine that could perform accurate mathematical tables to eliminate errors in human-computed results.
